Valentine’s Day is Just a Few Days Away!

Ok, this blog is written by a man.  From many years’ of experience I can tell you that if you forget to remember your sweetie on Valentine’s Day you are in for BIG trouble.  The observance really doesn’t have the same effect on men as it does on women, but, trust me, women live for February 14th.

The history of Valentine’s Day and the story of its patron Saint are shrouded in mystery.  No one really knows how long February has been celebrated as a month of romance.  As we know it today Valentine’s Day contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition and has its origins in the 5th century.

There are a number of Saints called Valentine who are honored on February 14th.  The day became associated with romantic love in the Middle Ages in England.  This may have followed on from the Pagan fertility festivals that were held all over Europe as the winter came to an end.  Traditionally, lovers exchanged hand-written notes.  Commercial cards did not become available until the mid-nineteenth century.   Now, over 150 million Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged annually, second only to the exchange of Christmas cards.

No doubt, a sweet card, a box of chocolate and dozen roses will score you a lot of points on Valentine’s Day.  But, if you really want to get your sweetie’s attention don’t stop with the easy list.  Go for the Valentine’s Day to remember.  Your first step is book a romantic getaway at one of Vicksburg’s luxurious bed and breakfast inns.  Bring along the sweet card, the chocolates and the roses for sure.  A bottle of champagne is perfect.

You’ll need to make reservations at one of our local restaurants for a romantic dinner and to listen to a little music.  If you really want to score some points, take to the dance floor.  Vicksburg’s live entertainment line-up is incredible and you will find a variety of music throughout the city.

These are just a few simple steps to making this Valentine’s Day one to remember.  For a complete list of accommodations, restaurants, live entertainment and special events just go to  Vicksburg:  The Key to the South.
