Vicksburg-Your Key to the Holidays Part 1
Wow, it is hard to believe that Thanksgiving has come and gone and that we are getting ready to celebrate Christmas. Vicksburg is teeming with holiday activities for the entire family. It doesn’t matter how old you are, Christmas brings out the child in all of us. Take a look at this amazing line up of festivities that will make this a Christmas to remember!
This week in Vicksburg – Let the Holiday Begin!
McRaven Tour Home presents Holiday Walking Spectacular – The grounds surrounding McRaven will be filled with your favorite Christmas characters. The grounds will be aglow from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday and from 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. Friday – Sunday. The walking tours are $5. One-hour tours of the interior of McRaven can be enjoyed on Fridays and Saturdays in December at 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The tours will feature presentations of Christmas stories. This will be the beginning of a new family holiday tradition!
The Kansas City Southern U.S. Holiday Express train will be open to the public on Wednesday, November 30th starting at 4:00 p.m. The six-car train brings Santa Claus and his elves to scheduled stops in communities throughout the company’s U.S. rail network. Guests can visit with Santa Claus and walk through three cars filled with holiday displays. Visits to the Holiday Express are free! KCS will be making a donation to our local Salvation Army.
To get you started on your holiday decorating be sure to attend the Annual Holiday Floral Design event on December 1st from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. at the MSU Warren County Extension Office. You will get some great tips on the latest designs and props for holiday entertaining with Lynnette McDougald.
You can help spread the joy of Christmas to children in need by attending Beechwood Children’s Charity Night. The event is December 1st and begins at 6:00 p.m. at the Beechwood Restaurant and Lounge. All proceeds will benefit Rainbow Farms Therapeutic Riding and Jacobs Ladder Learning Center. The evening will include a live auction and lots of live entertainment. There will be $10 cover charge at the door.
The Vicksburg High School Choir will be presenting an Acapella Christmas at the Old Court House Museum on Friday December 2nd from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Have you heard the acoustics in the courtroom? The concert is sure to be amazing! Admission to the concert will be free, but donations will be accepted.
Saturday, December 3rd the Southern Heritage Air Foundation presents Pajamas, Pancakes & Planes – Breakfast with Santa. You can take the kids to visit Santa from 8:00 – 9:30 a.m. or 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. at the Vicksburg-Tallulah Regional Airport. There will be a delicious pancake breakfast, lots of Christmas activities and most important of all a photo with Santa. Tickets are just $10 per person and you must make reservations.
If you a looking for a unique gift for that hard-to-shop-for person on your list be sure to stop by the 9th Annual Holly Days Arts & Crafts Show at the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation on Saturday, December 3rd. The auditorium will be packed with the region’s most outstanding arts and crafts vendors. There will be full day of live entertainment. Goldie’s Express will be set up for a delicious BBQ lunch. Admission is just $1. Really, just $1.
Mr. Jingles will be on hand to delight the children at the Levee Street Marketplace on December 3rd beginning at 9:00 a.m. Photos with Mr. Jingles and his band of elves will be available from 10:00 am until 1:00 p.m. Also, on December 3rd The Mad Baker will host the big man himself, Santa, from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. Yes, he would very much like to have his photo made with you!
This coming Saturday Mr. Claus has a very busy day indeed! He will be featured in his final appearance of the day at the Downtown Vicksburg Christmas Parade of Lights. The parade will begin at 5:00 p.m. and will travel along Washington Street. Downtown shops will be open!
