Mississippi Sightseeing – Visit Vicksburg

Whether you’re traveling to Vicksburg or just passing through, there are a few well-known local sights that are definitely worth seeing. Anytime you’re up for a drive, consider heading down these famous trails to get your fill of the South. Great River Road National Scenic Byway

Vicksburg is located along the Great River Road National Scenic Byway. Known as the best scenic drive in America, the byway follows the Mississippi River for 3,000 miles. Drivers get a front row seat to picturesque waterfront views and tons of river towns and cities. Along the way, there are plenty of things to see and do, from boating and fishing to historic tours.

The byway stretches from northern Minnesota to New Orleans. But, if you want to stay in the Vicksburg area, the Jesse Brent Lower Mississippi River Museum in Vicksburg is a great place to stop.

Mississippi Blues Trail

Music aficionados and adventure seekers alike will love taking a trip down the Mississippi Blues Trail. You’ll get to see where the magic of blues took root and learn interesting facts along the way. Vicksburg is home to five stops along the trail, including the Blue Room, where greats like Ray Charles, B. B. King and Louis Armstrong played.

Natchez Trace Parkway

If you’re itching to hit the road, the Natchez Trace Parkway won’t disappoint. Just 30 minutes from Vicksburg, it’s a 444-mile scenic drive through Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee. It was used by American Indians, early settlers, soldiers, slave traders and even Andrew Jackson. The parkway is a beautiful trip with plenty of places to bike, hike and camp from start to finish. Some notable Mississippi sightseeing destinations include the Sunken Trace, Mount Locust, and Rocky Springs.

Hot Tamale Trail 

Latin American cuisine has made its mark in the Mississippi Delta, and Vicksburg is no exception. Treat your taste buds to some authentic Southern fair along the Hot Tamale Trail. One of the stops, Solly’s Hot Tamales, has been a staple in Vicksburg since 1939.
