The Vicksburg Hipstoric Art Festival (VHAF) gives collectors the unique opportunity to see the work of 32 artists all in one place. Visitors are also able to meet and interact with artists, deepening the connection to the work and creating a more meaningful understanding of the creative process. Media categories for artists include clay, drawing/ pastels, fiber, glass, jewelry, mixed media (2D), mixed media (3D), painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and wood. In addition to fine art, the VHAF will host activities for children, food vendors and local musicians.
The inaugural event is part of the city’s Bicentennial celebrations, marking 200 years since Vicksburg’s founding in 1825. To further celebrate Vicksburg’s storied history, VHAF is incorporating one of the city’s most delicious legends with the Mint Julep Trail. According to legend, the mint julep was first created by flatboaters on the Mississippi, who would sip the libation by the waters of a spring surrounded by mint plants near Vicksburg. The Mint Julep Trail will pay homage to this local legend with area bars and restaurants presenting their version of the iconic beverage for visitors to taste.
The timing of the Vicksburg Hipstoric Art Festival works well for routing with some of the fall shows in the South including the Cottonwood Art Festival near Dallas, Bayou City Art Festival in Houston, and RiverArtsFest in Memphis. For more information, call 601-951-3032 or 601-831-3373.
